My environment, especially where I live at the time, will always influence my compositions. In this painting, I was impressed by the early morning effects created by the fog. I would get up early and drive around the countryside to make some sketches and take photos for my next paintings. I do not very often paint animals by in this landscape in particular, there was a strong perspective element produced by the position of the trees and the cows. The awareness of my presence is also enhanced by the posture of the animals looking in my direction. I like the interaction created all together between me, the animals, the trees, and the moving fog. This gave me the feel of being well grounded with nature.
